MEMORANDUM

TO:                Texas A&M University Faculty and Staff Employees

SUBJECT:     Acts of Gratitude and Appreciation

I want to express my gratitude and admiration for your extraordinary commitment and service to our university.

Over the last few weeks, we collectively have been challenged to fundamentally change everything we do – from educating students and maintaining business operations, to how we go about our lives at home and in the community.  Each small act of patience, resolve, gratitude, and service has a compounding effect on how we experience work.  Small actions are the difference between great and exceptional.

An email was sent out in February, announcing the expansion of staff appreciation activities for the month of April.  While the events we highlighted in that email, including the President's Meritorious Service Awards, will no longer be able to take place on campus this spring, there is more potential for small acts of gratitude and appreciation than ever before.

I am challenging each of us to make our university an exceptional place to work by taking on acts of appreciation, gratitude, or service this spring.  Let your colleagues and work-family know how much they are valued.  Show your appreciation in small ways. EVERYDAY.

The new Flourish program is here to support you:

MEMORANDUM

TO:               Texas A&M University Faculty and Staff Employees

SUBJECT:    Staff Appreciation All Year Long

A spirit of gratitude and appreciation is part of what makes this university a great place to work. For years we have reminded leadership, supervisors and all employees that staff appreciation is something we can celebrate all year. So, to make this official and create a new Aggie tradition, we are announcing that going forward, staff appreciation is expanding to a bigger focus throughout the year.

This change was made based on direct feedback from employees and supervisors who said having a designated week of campus-wide activities made it difficult for numerous staff to participate. Many offices/units/divisions suggested different weeks or month for events.

We encourage units/departments to continue the tradition of hosting a special departmental staff appreciation event/activity within your respective offices during a day that best suits your schedule. Let your staff know how much they are valued and that their efforts make a difference in the success of our university.

During President Young’s State of the University address in October, he announced that staff advancement was one of his six priorities. “As we all know, our staff are absolutely critical to everything we do and everything we try to accomplish. We want Texas A&M to not only be a great place for students but also for staff and faculty who work, learn, and live here,” Young said. He introduced the creation of a new university-wide employee wellness program named “Flourish at Texas A&M,” intended to improve well-being and engagement for all staff and faculty. Flourish at Texas A&M will take the lead in campus-wide appreciation events.

The new Flourish program is excited to provide both staff and faculty with different ways of showing our continued gratitude. Watch your email for special announcements regarding campus-wide events for 2020 and save the date for the following.

Upcoming Appreciation Events:

  • April 9        Campus Concert with Texas Unlimited Band
  • April 9        A&M Softball Faculty/Staff Appreciation Game
  • April 22      President’s Meritorious Service Award Ceremony
  • April 25      Staff Photo Day

  • April TBD  Fitness on the Green

For event details, download the Flourish App by searching for FlourishTAMU in the App Store or Google Play or visit the online calendar <flourish.tamu.edu/calendar>.

We encourage supervisors to ensure their employees feel valued and appreciated by allowing them time during the workday to attend these events. At Flourish, we believe that wellness and wellbeing are about doing more of what makes you feel good and surrounding yourself with a community that helps you make feeling good a priority. Universities like ours earn their stature in the world because of our outstanding people. And we believe Texas A&M has the best staff and faculty in higher education.

Gig ‘em,
